There are systems developed by NCI at major corporations that are still in use almost 20
years later! And, they're still supported by NCI!
What happens when you buy a system that was written by hired programmers and the
programmers inevitably quit? What happens when a distributor hires an outside firm to write
a package or simply buys the rights to an existing one? In either case, the only people who
understand the technical details of the software are long gone. Typically, you won't get much
in the way of support, enhancements or upgrades and you might as well learn to live with the
"bugs" and other technical problems in the software.
